Collier Residential Program's Consulting Psychiatrist and Medication Services: Dr. Thomas D'Amato
Medication use is the practice of controlling, administering, and/or prescribing medication to persons served in response to specific symptoms, behaviors, or conditions for which the use of medications is indicated and deemed efficacious. The Collier Residential Program uses medication as one form of treatment among many other trauma-informed approaches and is directed toward maximizing the functioning of our residents while reducing specific symptoms. Prior to the use of medication, other therapeutic interventions should be considered except in the event of more urgent intervention.
Dr. D'Amato is the Collier Residential Program's psychiatrist and is available to the residents every two weeks, depending on the level of services needed. All residents and families are involved in the preparation and review of their treatment plan. All medication is documented in the resident's treatment plan. The prescribing psychiatrist informs the staff, youth, and families of special dietary needs and restrictions associated with the medication use as well as necessary laboratory studies, tests, or other monitoring procedures.
